Forging equitable partnerships with Indigenous Communities

Over the past four decades, we have forged more than 40 partnerships with Indigenous Nations in Québec to ensure that our practices are more sustainable and equitable.
This approach also applies to our exports. For example, the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke, and Hydro-Québec will co-own the Hertel–New York interconnection line, which will connect with the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) at the Canada/U.S. border to deliver clean electricity from Québec to New York City.

Portrait of Indigenous Nations

There are eleven Indigenous Nations in Québec, each of which has its own culture, language, and social structure.

Inside our agreements with Indigenous Communities

Hydro-Québec has signed numerous agreements to date with Indigenous Communities. These vary depending on the nature of the project and the circumstances of the community in question.
